Second Annual
New England Undergraduate Computing Symposium:
Celebrating Excellence and Diversity in Computing

The committee of New England Computer Science Chairs (NECSC) and the Empowering Leadership Alliance (ELA) invite all undergraduates in universities, colleges, or community colleges in New England to participate in the second New England Undergraduate Computing Symposium which is being organized to celebrate Excellence and Diversity in Undergraduate Computing in New England.

Presentation Space

You can bring a poster and/or a laptop to give demos of your project.We will provide one of three options for you to present your poster or demo, including Power outlets and strips will be available during poster sessions at some but not all presentation locations. Time your demos to fit within an hour time slot. Be sure you have registered your preference for presentation mode by emailing Dr. Raquell Holmes at raquell@bu.edu. We will try to accommodate your request.

Student Presentations

There will be four student presentation during the closing session from 4:00-4:40.

Abstracts and Participation

The 2010 NEUCS has 46 posters or demos. You can view the abstracts here. and there are 115 registered participants from about 20 different schools: here.

Presentation Space

We will have several options for you to present your poster or demo, including You can either bring a laptop to give demos of your project and/or bring a poster.

Proceedings

All abstracts will be collected into a Symposium Proceedings that will be distributed electronically to the attendees (and the world!)

Prizes

At the end of the symposium, prizes for the best posters in the following categories will be presented:

in various categories will be presented (e.g. most creative course project, most likely to have a positive impact on society, etc.)

Directions to Bridge Parking Lot/ Photonics Building

From West:

Take the Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90) East to Exit 18, Allston/Cambridge. Exit Left. Follow the signs to Cambridge to the first set of lights. Turn right at the lights; this is Soldiers Field Road/Storrow Drive. Exit at Kenmore Square. Follow Local Directions below.

From South:

Take I-93/Route 3 (Southeast Expressway) North to Boston. Exit onto Storrow Drive (Exit 26). Continue on Storrow Drive to the Kenmore Exit. Follow Local Directions below.

From North:

Take I-93 or Route 1 South to Boston. Exit onto Storrow Drive (Exit 26). Continue on Storrow Drive to the Kenmore Exit. Follow Local Directions below.

From the North Shore:

Take Route 1-A through the Sumner Tunnel. Follow signs onto the Expressway North. Take the Back Bay/Storrow Drive Exit, and follow signs onto Storrow Drive. Continue on Storrow Drive to the Kenmore Exit. Follow Local Directions below.

Local Directions
from the Kenmore Square/Comm. Avenue Exit of Storrow Drive:

At the first set of traffic lights, turn right onto Beacon Street. The road forks, but keep to the left and follow it into Kenmore Square. Bear to your right and you will be on Commonwealth Ave. At the At the fifth traffic light, turn right onto University Road. The entrance to the Bridge Parking Lot will be the first left. Exit the parking lot and walk east (towards Kenmore Square). At the first intersection (in front of Marsh Chapel), cross over to the other side of the street. There is a Radio Shack on the corner of Comm. Ave. and St. Mary's St. The Photonics building is located at #8 St. Mary's and will be the first building on your left. There will be a registration table set up in the lobby.

By Public Transportation:

Boston University is located along the MBTA Green line. From any downtown Green Line subway station, take the "B" train heading outbound toward Kenmore Square. (If you are coming from Haymarket or North Station, take any train to Park St. and change to the "B" line.) After Kenmore, the train will be above ground. Exit the train at the third stop above ground (BU Central). Cross over Commonwealth to the other side and walk up St. Mary's St (there is a Radio Shack on the corner). The Photonics building is located at #8 St. Mary's and will be the first building on your left. There will be a registration table set up in the lobby.
